Aristo-Cats for Tatler Magazine

Cats in recent years have been regaining their status as a symbol of refined luxury within the fashion & beauty echelons. Ancient Egyptians worshipped felines immensely in an almost idol-like fashion, praising them for controlling vermin and their ability to kill deadly snakes such as cobras. As such the domesticated cat become a symbol of grace and poise. This was certainly the case, when PetLondon Models were tasked to find seven exquisite looking cats for an opulent shoot with Tatler Magazine. Some incredibly lavish jewellery was to be photographed, that wouldn’t have seemed out of place in the palaces of the Egyptian Pharaohs of old.

tatler-logo_white.png

Tatler is a high end fashion and lifestyle magazine which covers all aspects of high society. It was founded in 1901 by Clement Shorter. The shoot involved the feline stars being held by the humans models, showcasing both the spectacular watches, bracelets, rings and necklaces on offer. The stylish furry coated models cover seven whole glossy pages of Tatler’s internationally renowned Watches & Jewellery special issue.

The shoot took place back in April at a studio located in the trendy Kensal Green. The photographer was the highly coveted beauty, fashion and jewellery photographer Matthew Shave who has regularly worked with the biggest publications and brands. The cats were hand chosen by the jewellery brands & Tatler editorial team and PetLondon ensured the perfect mix of different breeds and colourings from British Short Hair to Russian Blue. Each cat had their own striking characteristics to compliment each aesthetic of each jewellery collection.

Adam, Chief Animal Handler, explained the atmosphere on set led to a fantastic shoot being conducted. He was delighted that the majority of the production crew at the shoot had worked with cats or were cats lovers. Therefore, everyone understood cat’s behaviour and psychology giving them the understanding and patience needed. This led to the cats having confidence and hence the capability to produce outstanding shots in a very candid fashion.

PetLondon visits the National Pet Show

Here at PetLondon we know how to do Sunday Funday properly. The National Pet Show was calling our name, so on Sunday we decided to visit the show which took place at the London Excel Centre on the weekend of the 6th and 7th May 2017.

IMG_20170507_124017

For those who aren’t in the know; the National Pet Show is a bonanza for animal lovers of all ages. The show is jam-packed with of a range of activities and hundreds of stands for pet lovers. From facing painting & arts ‘n’ crafts in the kids zone, to the boutique  marketplace for those shopaholics; there was something for everyone.

The show was split into four main zones each with a focus and feel to them. The sheer size of the show, feels like each zone you enter into is like crossing into a different continent. The four zones were the: Dog Zone, Cat Zone, Small Furries Zone & Animal Zone.
Hidden away in the far corner of the show was the Super Theatre which hosted amazing spectacles such and captivating talks. Highlights included the Amazing Bird of Prey experience with Leigh Holmes featuring amazing acts with Owls, Eagle, Peregrine Falcon and Vultures. We managed to catch Supervet Professor Noel Fitzpatrick’s Live Show where he talked about behind the scenes of Supervet on Channel 4 (just like we do on our blog) and the absolutely amazing stories he has from helping all sorts of animals over the years.

The dog zone featured a whole host of breed stands, where you could interact with dogs of all shapes and sizes and chat to the owners, many of which were associated with either breeders’ clubs or rescue charities. Everyone we spoke to was extremely knowledgeable and friendly, and we chatted away for hours.

Over the day we photographed a vast array of the happy exhibitors; some of them posing for the camera perfectly whilst others wanted to get up close and personal. Two mini arenas were located within the dog zone: The School4Dogs and the Dog Activity Ring. School4Dogs had trainers and experts explain the training and requirements for dogs in a variety of circumstances, such as in the workplace, health and social care, and the show business. They also have shows explaining positive reinforcement and types of training for puppies to learn different commands and tricks. It’s all about progressing from one stage to the next, with lots of praise and treats as rewards!

We managed to see the end of the timed agility course which saw dogs zipping under, over, through and around tunnels, seesaws and posts. It was like a Mini Crufts that they called Scrufts (hehe!). The highlight of the Dog Activity Ring was the spectacular UK Disc Dog Associations show. It was amazing to see the Border Collie leaping through the air catching Frisbees, dancing through legs and leaping up onto the trainers’ back standing tall and proud.

After a bite to eat, we wondered over to The Cat Zone where all the ‘Top Cats’ were on show. Here were a diverse range of domestic and exotic breeds from the classic British Shorthair to the playful Siamese. Many of them were rescue cats, and the exhibitors were more than welcome to share their stories, and provide insightful information into involving yourself into cat rescue and the benefits of such. At periodic times during the day, national level judges took time to explain to audiences how cats are judged at competitions. A fun fact is that it takes four shows within a year with at least ten cats being entered into a new category for a new colouring of a breed to enter the CCG. The presentations, and the Q&As were a bountiful fountain of information, with everything from cat communication to tips for cat grooming and care.

The small furries zone was a warren of activity. Rabbits, guinea pigs and chinchillas running around in amazing complex play pens and runs. It made everyone walking through stop and look… there was so much going on! Little bunnies were running around in a jungle-gym like run with a large open air central area, connected on each side by tunnels, tubes, hidey holes and a container deep enough for some serious burrowing. All the super furries looked super happy and healthy… just like we want to see. Once again this was a menagerie of information, with specific talks for rats, rabbits, chinchillas and guinea pigs. It was amazing to see young children absorbed by the speakers and soaking up all the information on offer. All the talks that we saw were engaging, slick and up-to-date.

Also on show was a charity which saved and rescued working hens from across the UK and a pen with a micro pig and Shetland pony, where farmers were educating the public and raising awareness for miniature animals’ welfare.  At PetLondon we are passionate about animal welfare so this was very encouraging and we were pleased the organisers were promoting such great causes.

Overall we had a lovely experience, enjoying and engaging with fellow animal lovers. It’s well worth a visit, especially for families considering to get a pet whether a small reptile or a big shaggy sheepdog. A top tip for our readers… tickets were slightly cheaper on Groupon! The National Pet Show took place in Birmingham and London this year. Head over to their website for more information regarding next year’s show!

Starina for VOGUE

Vogue China were in touch with PetLondon Models looking for a cat to star in one of their editorials for the June edition of the magazine. The cat selected was Starina the British Shorthair, who is no stranger to the camera, and has featured in a number of exciting shoots such as the recent project with Thomas Cook. Starina has an incredibly unique look, with stunning ‘David Bowie’ style eyes, one pale green and the other bright blue.

01_camera_500x500

Starina is an incredibly calm and relaxed cat, and loves being in front of the camera.”Starina was walking around the studio all day like she owned it“, Saz, Starina’s owner joked. Starina’s chilled attitude and model behaviour impressed the whole Vogue China crew, who were able to get all six shots they hoped for. Regina Chan, Fashion and Accessory Editor, adored Starina so much, that she now follows the feline’s Instagram account.

Saz also commented that the crew made the pair feel very comfortable, and Starina seemed very relaxed during the entire process: “It was one of my favourite shoots, and we had a great time.  Starina kept herself entertained during the day by playing with the brightly coloured backdrop paper on set.”

Modelling with a range of models, shoes and bags, Starina’s love of all things luxurious meant she was a perfect fit for the shoot, and looks natural and relaxed surrounded by the designer products. Starina was a particular fan of sitting in one of the luxury handbags, and made herself very comfortable and had a well deserved cat nap. Using Starina’s favourite chain toy, the crew were able to get her attention and get some fantastic shots of her in the bag.

The image below was taken just after Starina’s shut eye, and turned out to be one of the best shots of the day.

Staring did a fantastic job, and the spread came out beautifully. Keep an eye out for more Starina in the future!

Stella for CIF

Cif_logo.png

Cif are cleaning the roof of the O2! The O2 arena’s roof will take 72 days to complete. The iconic multi-purpose indoor venue in Greenwich, London, is currently midway through a dramatic make-over as part of Cif’s ‘Before & After Project’, which will see the 50 metre building receive a spruce up using the floor cleaning product.

The lengthy project, which aims to turn the building’s roof back to its bright white colour, is being documented on the the brand’s official Facebook page and website. To help promote the project CIF called on PetLondon Models to provide a cat to star in their viral video.

CIF

The chosen kitty was Perla the Persian, a stunning female cat who is almost pure white but with some striking markings. She attended for filming in a location flat specially selected because of its view of the O2 from its living room window.

Perla was given some time to explore the new environment and settle in and she particularly enjoyed chilling on the windowsill. For one of the scenes the female actor was to hold Perla whilst speaking to the camera. Perla was happy to oblige in a cuddle and show off her gorgeous coat to the camera.

PERLA CIF

Perla is a true professional and as usual gave an outstanding performance for the client. You can watch some of the final footage below and this is being aired across CIF’s social media channels and as viral videos.

#CatsOnaPlane

A recent and very top secret project we have been working on a PetLondon Models HQ was a multi-cat job involving some very unusual requests! The assignment involved a large group of friendly felines needed for filming on actual airplanes at an Airport.

This job was for both Thomas Cook Airlines and its sister Airline, Condor. The airlines wanted some cats to test out the comfort of their new Airbus 330 and Boeing 767 and to create entertaining, promotional viral videos. The resulting footage and images were to become part of the #CatsOnAPlane campaign. The campaign, which launches as part of a wider advertising initiative for Thomas Cook Airlines in both the UK and Germany, aims to highlight the airline’s belief that customers “deserve better” when flying on their hard-earned holidays.

Travelling with animals by air, especially with cats is very difficult when you live in the UK  so this was a unique and one-off experience for some of our models to try out being in the actual cabin of a plane!

The initial brief was very detailed. There were ten roles up for casting and PetLondon Models was asked to help suggest cats for each position. Each character we had to fill had a brief about their individual personalities. We studied the storyboards and cross-checked these against our books to see who would be fitting for each role. In the end a variety of options went over to the client for each of the characters to be cast and they then had the difficult decision of selecting the final few. For many jobs there is strong competition for each position and behind the scenes the clients are often choosing between a few animals for each role.

Casting-Call-2-470x260

Once word was in of the clients final choices, the excitement began for many of our cats and handlers. The filming schedule spanned nearly a full 24-hour period. Travel arrangements and schedules had to be carefully planned in advance and practise began for each cat to get used to what they would need to do on set.

First up we had Starina. She was chosen for the role of “Princess Pamper”. Having worked with Starina on many previous occasions we certainly agree this was the perfect character for her to play! “Princess Pamper (Pamps to her friends) is a lover of the finer things in life. She was chosen because she’s renowned for her demanding demeanor. For Pamps to be happy she requires a certain set of guidelines to be adhered to. If all her needs are met, it’s a smooth ride for everyone”

Starina is a very easy-going cat who is used to going on lots of outdoor adventures. It was her first time on a plane but she took everything in her stride and took some time to select her favourite seat!

Starina Settles Into Her Preferred Seat

Starina enjoyed looking out the window and meeting all the crew on set. Once it was time to get filming, she was as ever, ready to perform for the camera! This sweet girl has the most stunning eyes, one blue and one green.

Here is the final footage of Starina’s filming that we are delighted to be able to share with you. The online ad shows Starina relaxing on Thomas Cooks newly refurbished A330 and has subtitles to show what she might be thinking.

Next, was the role of “The Stray Siblings”. There were several litters in the running for this position but in the end it was six adorable Chausie brothers and sisters who were selected by the client. Only three were used in the footage but they took the filming in turns and this enabled the babies to get some rest in between the swaps. They loved all the excitement though and could not get enough of their first big adventure!

“Ben, Jane and Alice Stray are 3 siblings. They’re well known as the toughest, most challenging and rowdy bunch of testers… and they know it. They know how to push the buttons of cabin crew and how to truly stress test the friendly customer service.”

The Chausie Kittens enjoyed all the excitement of exploring somewhere new

Here is their final footage. As you will see, these babies truly enjoyed themselves, having time to explore and play, watch some in-flight entertainment and then after all that excitement, taking a nap with their teddy bear!

Next was the very distinguished Zinedine. Zinedine (nickname Zinny) was cast as “Quality Ken”. “Quality Ken is a total cynic, he’s hard to impress and he knows it. He plays his cards close to his chest – he hates to show anyone what he’s really thinking… even if it’s good!Ken’s lived a quiet life, he’s the eldest of 18 brothers and sisters…always the most reliable. He doesn’t often let his hair down. Ken is one of those cats who’s ashamed of his feline instincts. Behaving cat-like demeans the air of authority he has worked so hard to achieve.”

Zinny is a six year old male Persian from London. He is very confident with being an actor and enjoys meeting new people or trying new experiences. Arriving at the airport he was not phased by the hangar but did appreciate a cosy blanket to snuggle up in.

Waiting Patiently for the Camera Crew to get ready….

IMG_4989Sweet Zinny is a most expressive cat and his film reel certainly demonstrates this and entertains viewers about the airlines newly refurbished fleet. He was so cosy and happy in his seat that he was quite miffed when it was time to leave!

Finally we had brothers Orpheus and Ryder. These Norwegian Forest Cats are the best of friends. They enjoy to do everything together and so this was a perfect opportunity for them to be side by side. They were both working on the Condor Plane.

Orpheus played the role of “Captain”. Captain is a more senior role and he is a well versed flyer who has flown with Condor for a lifetime. He enjoys the welcome and warmth hwereceives on every flight. Orpheus performed like a true pro as he quickly settled into the new environment and relaxed into his comfortable seat.

One lucky cat was chosen to travel business class and this was Ryder! With his stunning pure white coat he looked very elegant in his oversized and reclining seat and was able to fully stretch out. He even managed to operate the controls himself.

This project was a delight to work on for all the handlers, crew and animals involved. As a special sneak peak we have some behind the scenes footage to be able to share with you if you have have ever wondered how on earth his all gets put tougher

The fabulous collection of viral ads are currently being promoted across Facebook, Instagram and Twitter.

Tom Morey, senior group marketing manager at Thomas Cook Airlines, said: “No-one can assess comfort like a cat. They’re the hardest customers to please, which is why we wanted to test our new interiors with the best. And the results left the cautious kitties feline great.”

Cats on the Catwalk for Stella McCartney

PetLondon Models took part in an exciting campaign for fashion designer Stella McCartney. We were contacted and briefed that they were looking for a selection of different cats to model in a photoshoot at Sunbeam Studios in London. We got to work right away as there was not much time to spare and put together a range of different cats and kittens for them to review.

After some difficult selections, the lucky chosen felines were from left to right: Hechi, Tobias, Sammi, Adaline and Perla,

Excited to have landed this assignment, they all headed over to the studio where PetLondon handler Adam was on hand to make the introductions. A few were not sure of each other initially but warmed up to their new friends as the day went on.

Adam introduces Kitten Tobias to Perla. At first they were unimpressed with each other. Sometimes models dislike sharing the limelight…

Each cat took turns on set to model with top human models including Lineisy Montero. The shoot was for the Stella McCartney’s Autumn Collection Campaign. Some of the collection featured actual cats within the prints and designs, so it was a perfect fit!

Perla showing off one of the looks

Persian Model Perla has been modelling from a young age. She was quite a sensation on set with her striking features and calm demeanour. Her markings are really unique and give her such character. Whether it was hanging out on a giant cushion, being carried under the arm or trying an action shot, Perla was ready to provide whatever was needed.

PetLondon were particularly happy to be working with Stella since she has a great passion for animal welfare and all of her brands collections are always animal-friendly. Stella McCartney doesn’t use leather, feathers or fur in any of its designs or products. This commitment is admirable and something that very few high end brands follow such a chosen path. PetLondon’s ethos is all about animal welfare as a priority so this synergy created a great connection.

Unknown-8

In a particularly tricky shot, Adam makes sure that Persian Hechi is safe and balanced on the models shoulder, he was on and to jump in at split seconds notice

All the models really enjoyed the shoot. They took it in turns to model different looks from the collection with different models. It was a long day though and at one point Perla was so relaxed she fell asleep in one of the designer handbags.

Unknown-13

At first we noticed she was very comfortable and relaxed inside the handbag

Next thing we knew, she was fast a sleep. Well, you know what they say, a girl has to get her beauty sleep

All of the PetLondon Models worked hard and created some fabulous images for the campaign.

Pets Alone

Three of our talented models recently took part in creating a viral video for Frontline. The brief was to recreate a scene from Home Alone but with a dog as the one left at home alone and a couple of “cat” burglars trying to break in over Christmas.

The casting process was tough and several animals were considered for the positions. In the end the lucky dog selected was Lottie, a crossbreed from Essex who has an impressive list of special skills.

Cast alongside Lottie were siblings Birman Foxy and Maine CoonWolfie, two felines from Southend-on-Sea. This lovely duo often work together on set as they are both very talented and photogenic.

The filming took place over a day and Lottie (aka “Kevin”) had to do some special practise rehearsals at home to get used to the actions required.

We were very excited to see the final video as the script sounded like a really fun storyboard and we are delighted to be able to share with you the results on here

To Brush or Not To Brush?

Yes, I know, in today’s busy world you probably barely have time to brush your own teeth so the thought of having to do your pets too might sound like a lot of work but seriously when you think about it….. It is just about 180 seconds of your day that could make a huge difference to the health and life span of your furry friend.

dog_toothbrush_9s

Try to get into a routine where you brush your animals teeth in the evening after they have finished eating for the day. It’s a good idea to do it around the same time as you do your own nightly brush. That way you are more likely to remember. Keep your pets toothbrush in your bathroom where you will be likely to see it each night as a reminder.

Toothbrush-Holder-Bathroom-Products-Kit-Banheiro-Tooth-Brush-Holder-Toothpaste-Conjunto-Banheiro-Luxury-Bathroom-Accessories-Set

You can use a special pet toothbrush. There are lots of different kinds available to suit different types of dog or cat. The main choices are; finger toothbrush, tiny toothbrush or a dual headed brush that covers both at once. Then you need to select a pet toothpaste. Make sure you check the scent of this, meat flavoured ones might not lead to very pleasant breath! Its best to look for one that is minty or vanilla for sweeter puppy kisses.

triple-pro

Brush your pets teeth just as you would your own. They don’t need to rinse . However make sure you carefully rinse out their brush under water each time you use it to avoid it getting stiff and also to keep it clean.

In an ideal world you would brush your pets teeth EVERY day but if you can manage even 3-4 times a week then you are doing better than most. For those of you who want another option, on nights when you cannot manage a full brush you can use a pet tooth wipe which is a 20 second quick solution that is better than doing nothing at all.

Once you start teeth brushing into your dog or cats routine you should notice a number of key benefits. Your dog or cat will have cleaner teeth and plaque will build up less quickly. This should mean better breath and less visits to the veterinarian for teeth cleaning over their lifetime. The teeth and gumline affect the whole health of your pet and most people are unaware that bad teeth can cause pain (which your pet cannot tell you about) and lead to other dangerous conditions such as heart problems.

Do your pet a favour and try to start today!
