Definitive Insider Industry Guide To Making Your Pet Instafamous

PetLondon Models, since its foundation over 10 years ago has propelled more pets to stardom than any other animal agency in the UK. In response with the explosively rapid growth over the last couple of years for marketers and brands across all sectors wanting to use fido or feline social media superstars, we created our exclusive Instafamous Pets Division.

This is the definitive industry insider guide on how to make your pet both Instagram famous with thousands of followers but how this can translate into being a successful animal model. This guide includes in-depth and essential considerations gleamed both from our extensive professional experience, as well as top tips from social media superstars themselves.

  1. Make it fun for everyone involved

Set out on this journey with the key intention of having fun, first and foremost. The best social media stars start with the owners wanting to create, strengthen their bonds with their pet and to share special memories.

This must be translated into the whole experience where you must reward regularly your budding Instagram star for their hard work with lots of attention. Whether it be a treat, a new toy or jacket, or just some good old fashioned playtime; let them be who they are and express themselves!

Two dogs playing with a ball.

  1. Find your Thing

Take a note from the huge social media stars, sharing a story through their passions and interests is key to starting out. No matter what your interest, find a way in experiencing your passions together.

Insta-famous dogs have been seen doing everything from dressing up and making music videos, reviewing amazing dog friendly restaurants in your city, posing in front of amazing visits and places or helping you to beat your best 5Km  time on a Saturday morning.

  1. Post, Post & Post some More

No one will follow a profile with only eight photos, with a couple of them in low lighting. Save up a collection of pics taken over a couple of months. We use Iphone’s Portrait mode to snap some good quality photos, but maybe invest in a SLR camera if you plan to snap in some challenging environments!

Like anything in life, consistency and persistence is key. Planning some shots and sticking to a schedule, you will quickly reap the rewards. Link your account with Instagram’s analytic programmes to see insights on timings and audiences. Remember where in the world you audience might be and post accordingly.

Mix it up! Instagram not only has the capacity to post single or multiple photos, but also there are videos, looping boomerangs, stories, and live recordings. Differentiating posts and keeping it fresh is bound to excite and attract new followers. Give your captions a tone and a voice, some of the best use very innovative methods of communication mimicking perfectly how they think their pet will sound.

Don’t forget to use hashtags, have a look at what similar profiles are posting. Videos always gain more intentions than photos as well. An insider tip is to use  a mixture of specific and generic hashtags in a process known as laddering.

  1. Become a PR Networking Professional

Akin to your professional and personal life, it’s vital to your pet’s budding social media journey is to get out there and to attract people’s attention… both digitally and in real life.

From heading to dog meetups in your local area, attending social media conferences and contacting on twitter key industry and influencer professionals, there are a multitude of ways.

For example, PetLondon Models visited both Pupaid in Primrose Hill and Chiswick Dog Show, to market our agency and meet potential stars living in the local neighbourhood. We even had one dog, give us a business card with his social media handles!

maxresdefault.jpg

Collaborating with other dog owners with a similar number of followers of your creates an amazing buzz, allowing to post some cool photos and make some friends in the process!

The more you interact online, with all types of people, who knows what successes lie ahead will be in the long run. We have recruited models from Instagram ourselves(@petlondonmodels).

  1. Training and becoming a Instafamous Model

A strong sit and stay command in extremely stimulating and challenging environments. It make this fame-seeking task easier and more efficient  but you’ve got to teach your pet to actually enjoy posing for the camera. Using toys or treats are always good, but with the right training your pet could perform tens of tricks.

These skills are extremely transferable to being a model and part of our agency.

We have worked with the biggest names in the business from Disney to The Sunday Times, from Burberry to Virgin Media. Being part of our agency means exclusive access in being shortlisted or booked for biggest advertising, marketing and PR campaigns with globally renowned brands.

2

In September 2017, Cineworld asked specifically for Instafamous Pugs for a campaign.

What’s better exposure them being on a national TV advert campaign or seeing your super-star in the pages of a national newspaper? We stress again that do not make your pet do anything they don’t want to do. Patience, peristence and positive reinforcement are the cornerstones to success.

101 Dalmatians + Friends for Cath Kidston

At 7am, Shelton Street, nestled in the heart of Covent Garden, is usually a quiet and tranquil place, with commuters walking to the tube in the early morning sunshine, a couple of joggers pounding the pavements and coffee shops just opening up their shutters; however, here at PetLondon Models we knew this wouldn’t be the case as we were tasked in providing 25 dogs for the launch of Cath Kidston’s brand new 101 Dalmatian range in collaboration with Disney.

Queuing up to Checkout

Our assignment was to provide 6 Dalmatians to be stars of the show, with 20 other dogs of varying sizes, ages and breeds to support them. Even though not close to the 101, it sure felt like it, as it was possibly a record number of dogs in one location at one time in recent history for PetLondon Models.

Forming an orderly queue…

The 6 Dalmatian stars rose very early with their owners to get over to Covent Garden. For the participants it was a great experience. “We as owners, were a little nervous on arrival not really knowing what to expect!” said Celia, the owner of Suzy and Bebe. “We were put at ease immediately by the warm welcome to both ourselves and the dallies and was impressed with Adams professional handling of all the dogs.”

The Dalmatians came from near and far, very reminiscent of the film, to partake in the earlier part of shoot taking place in the store itself. Below from left to right we have the six superstars: Roo, Bebe, Suzy, Dolly, Mylo & Domino. We had a truly magical tear-jerking Disney moment, as Mylo & Domino found out they were siblings and have been reunited years later on this shoot. After the shoot was done, they were seen walking side-by-side to go for some brunch and a paw-to-heart.

Mylo and Domino litter siblings united after years apart!

The goal of the shoot was to get some amazing shots of the Dalmatians in store and outside the store in some fun and candid setups. This included Bebe placing her paws on the counter pretending to pay for her goods, Roo walking out the shop happy as can be with a shopping bag in this mouth and a couple of the models sniffing around the shop itself looking at the Dalmatian emblazoned merchandise.

The Disney range itself is very varied with different designs and motives across a wide range of products; from tote bags to umbrellas, purses to socks, pyjamas to aprons each is classically Dalmatian themed, both for adults and kids alike. The range is available across all stores and online for the UK, and in selected international outlets. Please check here.

Whilst this was taking place, in a courtyard just around the corner, the rest of the supporting cast and crew arrived. Not only did we have twenty dogs, but also one human model for every animal. The cast included a range of typical dogs seen out shopping on your local high-street, so we had a varied collection of supporting cast including: Poodles, French bulldogs, Pugs, Jack Russell, Sausage Dogs, Spaniels and a lot more aside! The models were to each have a canine companion for the duration of the shoot. The dogs definitely chose their new pet parent for that morning and after a lot tail wagging and sniffing , we were ready to start the second part of the shoot taking place outside the store.

Models getting to know their new pet parents

The aesthetic was to line them up along the shop front with the Dalmatians at the front of the line, with each dog and their model forming a somewhat orderly queue behind. It was a very high energy set with so many models both human and canine together, but some amazing shots were taken. Lots of squeaking, clapping, barking and cheering to get the attention of the dogs. After some readjustments and repositioning of certain dogs, the camera team was able to snap some fantastic shots.

Getting the pawww-fect shot

The hallmark of any successful job is finishing early, and this assignment finished a full 60 minutes ahead of schedule. All the dogs were pawfectly awesome and were as good as gold considering all the excitement.

Cooper for FEARLESS

ww.jpg

A fun job request came in from the University of Northampton. They knew exactly what they were looking for! A Blue/Grey French Bulldog with a white patch on his/her chest to open and close their fashion show and to be the star visitor for the event.

We were provided with a copy of their invitation that featured a French Bulldog that they were trying to match as closely as possible. We had a couple of options for them to choose from that fitted this precise brief. After exchanging several model profile details and checking availability with some of our dogs and handlers the chosen Frenchie was the very lovely Cooper !

This was a great choice. Cooper is extremely friendly with everyone, very well socialized and used to lots of people around him. He accepts cats, very friendly with all dogs and loves children. He is very relaxed in busy environments. He can sit, shake, stay and give paw and learn special requests .

Unlike some of our jobs, this client was very well organised and left of plenty of planning time, so Cooper had quite a while to get ready for his trip and look forward to the event.

On the day of the show, Cooper and his handler travelled up on the train from London. They arrived to find that Cooper was presented with a specially prepared and branded dog coat so that he would match the theme of the evening. The colour really suited him.

3.jpg

Cooper loved his raincoat!

Cooper had a specific schedule and plenty of time to relax, rest and enjoy meeting everyone. Everyone was very excited to meet with him before the show started and lots of people wanted to take pictures with him of course.

1

Cooper is a very well behaved and boy and was able to roam freely around the venue taking in the sights and showing off his new coat.

2.jpg

Cooper was the star of the event and everyone absolutely loved him. When it was time for the show to start Cooper took pride of place at the front of the show.

4.jpg

The client was very happy with the the models performance and even dropped us a message saying  “Just a note to say that Cooper the French Bulldog was a complete success, he did everything and more that we needed him to do. Cooper welcomed our VIP Guests on the steps of the University, then moved to the Art Gallery, then he queued up for an ice cream and then walked to the front of the Marquee and laid down in exactly the spot we wanted him to – PERFECT!”

Well done to Cooper for a very successful assignment and on being able to being smiles to so many faces 🙂

Stella for CIF

Cif_logo.png

Cif are cleaning the roof of the O2! The O2 arena’s roof will take 72 days to complete. The iconic multi-purpose indoor venue in Greenwich, London, is currently midway through a dramatic make-over as part of Cif’s ‘Before & After Project’, which will see the 50 metre building receive a spruce up using the floor cleaning product.

The lengthy project, which aims to turn the building’s roof back to its bright white colour, is being documented on the the brand’s official Facebook page and website. To help promote the project CIF called on PetLondon Models to provide a cat to star in their viral video.

CIF

The chosen kitty was Perla the Persian, a stunning female cat who is almost pure white but with some striking markings. She attended for filming in a location flat specially selected because of its view of the O2 from its living room window.

p3

Perla was given some time to explore the new environment and settle in and she particularly enjoyed chilling on the windowsill. For one of the scenes the female actor was to hold Perla whilst speaking to the camera. Perla was happy to oblige in a cuddle and show off her gorgeous coat to the camera.

PERLA CIF

Perla is a true professional and as usual gave an outstanding performance for the client. You can watch some of the final footage below and this is being aired across CIF’s social media channels and as viral videos.

Harvey Nichols Menswear Launch

A dozen PetLondon Model dogs descended upon Knightsbridge to promote the launch of department store Harvey Nichols new menswear department that is selling clothes by 270 designers in Central London.

Harvey Nichols, founded in 1831, is a British department store chain with a flagship store in Knightsbridge, London. It sells fashion collections for men and women, fashion accessories, beauty products, wine and food.

To celebrate the grand opening of the newly refurbished and relaunched menswear department some talented dogs were called in from us. A total of three different breeds all in groups of four; Bulldogs, Greyhounds and Afghan Hounds. At PetLondon HQ there was a lot of preparatory work needed. We set to task putting together some quads who would be happy working together and also had to take a series of measurements that would be used to create some custom-made outfits for each dog.

2

Since some of these breeds were especially tricky shapes, this called for some of the owners to get creative with their sketch pads and we were especially impressed with some of the submissions.

The event called for a very early start and some of our models set off very early in order to make it in time for the 7am meet and greet. This was a chance for all the dogs to get familiar with each other and for the male model appointed to each group to get acquainted with his animals. All the dogs were in high spirits and excited by all the fuss and extra attention they were recieving.

iii.jpg

First on the schedule was a photoshoot with a photographer outside the stores main entrance and also on the square to the side of the store. The dogs posed in their groups of four of a breed with the male models.

4.jpg

From Left to Right, The Bulldogs; Queenie, Louie, Coco and Olive

Each dog’s outfit co-ordinated with what the human model was wearing. The Bulldogs that included sisters Coco and Olive, along with Louie and Queenie were wearing raspberry pink polo shirts and navy gilets.

From Left to Right; Norman, Suki, Lurch & Jet

The Greyhounds’ outfit was our personal favourite, they were wearing tailored suits complete with shirt collars and ties. All of the dogs in this group were especially charming and friendly. They looked so professional and dapper and the colour scheme suited them perfectly.

1HN

From Left to Right; Iraida, Lucca, Trieze & Louis

Finally, the Afghan Hounds in their bright orange cashmere. These girls and boys were from different owners but all related in that they all shared the same father. It was a great chance for a family reunion and there was much excitement all round. These dogs are show-stoppers, with their elegant flowing locks that were blowing in the wind, they were impossible to miss.

1

A variety of fabulous shots were taken of all the dogs, both static and on the move. Many of these made it onto social media and into the evening press with a great response from the public.

After the still shots next was a promotional walk around the perimeter of the store to hand out Harvey Nichols goody bags to the surprised but exceed passers-by.

PetLondon Models also took some behind the scenes footage. Here you can see the Greyhound group doing one of their walks outside the Knightsbridge store. A lot of passers-by did a few double-takes. Its not every day you see such a sight, even in London!

Bunnies on Set for Look Magazine

As Easter approaches each year we tend to see a surge in demand for Bunnies! As these campaigns have to be planned out quite far in advance this can start as early as January for companies planning to release campaigns in the Spring. This year has been no different to usually and Rabbits have been in hot demand these past few months. One of these assignments was for a request from Look Magazine, a British publication. Look is a glossy high street fashion and celebrity weekly magazine for young women.  The magazine focuses on fashion, high street shopping advice, celebrity style and news, and real-life stories. The magazine was planning a spring themed photoshoot and were looking for a couple of bunnies to pose alongside some props such as perfume bottles.

After sending them lots of options to choose from, a decision was made to use Kira and Bucks Fizz who were both siblings and would get along great on set.

Both bunnies travelled over to the studio in North London where they were greeted by lots of fans! There were plenty of special cuddles for them from the team.

The bunnies were given some time to get acquainted with their co-stars, a selection of different perfume bottles! The positioning and lighting were all co-ordinated for the optimal images. Neither bunny was phased by all the attention and they were used to the camera flash.

As you can see from the above the end-results were absolutely stunning. There were plenty of fantastic images to choose from. Kira the grey bunny was especially a little star as he was quite willing to put his paw up on a prop or to wrap his paw around it as if he was holding the object.

After a really fun day the bunnies headed home to get some well deserved rest and to rejoin the rest of their family. It was then to be a couple of weeks wait before the article and accompanying images were to be published.

Look MagThe February issue of Look Magazine did not disappoint. Both rabbits looked fantastic in their triple-page spread.

Dogs Dinner for Family Guy Launch

Here at PetLondon Models there is never a dull moment and it is not just all about photoshoots and feature films. We are also often asked to help with special events, parties and promotions. Some of these require a lot of behind the scenes planning and its always a delight to work on these exciting projects.

Griffin_family.png

Petlondon Models was commissioned  to create a unique event which was to consist of Food, Drinks, atmosphere and a crowd of canines, to celebrate the launch of a new DVD of one of America’s top adult cartoons; The Family Guy. Family Guy is created by Seth MacFarlane for Fox Broadcasting company. The series centres on the Griffins, a family consisting of 5 members and their anthropomorphic pet dog Brian. The mission was that this event, would be black tie, catered for dogs… and in honor of Brian, one of the main characters of the show.

Family-Guy-Event002

London’s first ever fine dining and cocktail bar for dogs was launched in celebration of Family Guy ‘s pet dog Brian. Season 11 is released on DVD on 7th November.

With tight numbers for the guest list, we gathered together some special canine fans of the show, who varied in shapes and sizes but were all well socialised and great at being around other animals. The selected few  were in  for a promising evening of treats galore.

One of the main stars of the evening was to be a Look-a-like for the main character of the show-Brian. After PetLondon Models pulling many options for Disney to review, the final choice was made to use Lobo. Lobo is a Northern Inuit Dog who resides in Devon. He can sit, lie down, roll over, do a hight 5, 2 high 5’s, gives his paw and even give his paw in Spanish.

Now that the guest list and star dog were chosen we had to set to work on some serious party planning. The requests for the evening included; luxurious dog bowls and cushions for all the animals, all in the brand colours of course. A canine mixologist, black tie serving staff, a 3 course menu, treats to take home and a spokesperson to announce the highlights!

For the entire evening the event was going to take over a pub in Islington. The guests were to have drinks, eat 5* specially prepared food and to mingle.  Film crews and photographers were capturing the whole event on camera.

DSC_0204

After arriving early to set up the room with all the props that included colour co-ordinated table clothes and paw print balloons, the preparing of the special food was done on site.

The delicious offering for the dogs was a 3 course meal served off silver platters. To start with was a Bow Wow Chopped Liver Bone Parfait. For the mains a choice of Paw Licking Chicken or Rovers Risotto & Meatballs. To finish some Pawtisserie selections!

MMMM

There were empty plates all round and the starter especially lasted just a few seconds on most of the guests plates before it had vanished from sight .

DSC_0205

Most guests preferred to sit at tables on chairs and ate in groups of 2-4 on a table. Anyone who could not manage to finish all their foods would most likely find a friend to their right who was happy to assist.

2

Family-Guy-Event007

Drinks were also well planned out for the guests. The special canine mixologist had prepared some “Dogtails” that included Hair of the Dog, Salty Dog and Mutt-ini’s. All used dog friendly ingredients such as mango and coconut and were served with a Rawhide Swizzler stick.

4.jpg

The Salty Dog was a firm favourite with many dogs reaching their third glass during the evening. Drinking straight from the cocktail glass did not phase anyone and they were probably wondering why their mealtimes could not always be such a civilised affair.

DSC_0214

Lobo enjoying the evenings delights

Lobo was the star of the show but took everything in his stride and remained calm an relaxed, unfazed by all the attention. As the largest dog at the event he stood out and enjoyed the events unfolding.

The evening was an outstanding success. The guests all had the time of their lives and to end off the night there was a specially prepared dog cake that featured Brian and the Family Guy logo.

DSC_0211

Many images from the evening appeared in the national press and were enjoyed by all those who saw them.
